Old House features a large array of equipment for performing and recording music.
Beyond good technique, good-sounding music usually benefits from good-sounding instruments and Old House features a large collection of drums, guitars, amplifiers, keyboards, and additional instruments, which are generally available to clients at no extra charge. (Check with us in advance to insure availability of a particular instrument, as some of these are from the personal collection of our staff.)
Once the musicians are comfortable, good microphone choice and placement are integral to the sound of a recording. Old House features a collection of over one hundred microphones manufactured between about 1950 and the present.
The sound from the microphones can be amplified and manipulated with a wide range of preamps, equalizers, dynamics control units, and effects. Old House features an assortment of "studio standard" and unusual pieces of outboard equipment (some of which was built right here on-site by David Black and Scott Applegate) for customizing the sound of our clients' recordings. (Ask to see the manual for the Federal compressor.)
A choice of recording mediums are available for our clients. Old House is equipped with very robust and reliable modern hard-disk recorders, software-based computer recording platforms, and fully-functional classic analog tape machines, as well.
Old House's recording console is a classic British-made console with many excellent custom features convenient to efficient workflow and excellent sound.
Old House is also equipped with a variety of studio monitors for comparing recordings on different speaker configurations.
In addition, Old House has a variety of other niceties to make recording a comfortable experience.
